Ashcraft landed on the 60-day injured list in late May with a UCL sprain, but a platelet-rich plasma injection earlier this month seems to have helped the ligament heal. It will take time for Ashcraft to be built back up, and there is a real possibility of a setback when the UCL is involved. However, Tuesday's news gives him a chance to return at some point during the second half.

The shoulder injury that sent Williamson to the injured list April 30 remains the primary concern. By the time Williamson completes a rehab assignment and is ready to return from the 60-day IL, the Reds likely won't have a rotation spot available to him, as Hunter Greene (elbow) is expected back from the shelf during the upcoming week.

Dunn was not in Saturday's lineup after being removed from Friday's game with elbow discomfort. The Reds want to conduct further tests before landing on a diagnosis. "Until we get more back, he will stay with us today. And then we'll try to get as much information as we can," Reds manager Terry Francona said. Dunn was replaced in center field by Dane Myers and as the team's leadoff hitter by Elly De La Cruz.

Santillan -- who has notched each of the Reds' last three saves -- was placed on the 15-day injured list earlier Friday, and he appears to be facing a prolonged absence. Emilio Pagan (hamstring) is expected back from the IL soon and could immediately retake his closer job. Until then, Pierce Johnson and/or Tejay Antone could get a look in the ninth inning.

Hayes has been sidelined since late May with a lumbar bulging disc, but he's improved enough in order to be cleared to test out his back in games. He will likely require several rehab contests before returning to the Reds' active roster, and Hayes faces an uncertain playing time outlook when he is activated.

Manager Terry Francona had said previously that Greene would take the ball either Friday or Saturday, and it's now official that the hard-throwing righty will pitch on Independence Day. Brady Singer will get the start in Friday's series opener. Greene is coming back from arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow, which he underwent in mid-March. The hurler was excellent in three rehab starts, posting a 13:2 K:BB over 14.1 scoreless innings. Greene logged 82 pitches and 6.1 frames in his final rehab outing, so he should be prepared for close to a full workload Saturday.

Myers had to be carted off the field during Monday's game versus the Brewers after he collided with the outfield wall following a terrific catch. X-rays came back negative, but Myers is still being evaluated to determine whether there's additional damage beyond a contusion. The Reds should have more on Myers' status later this week.
